The return of Fairtrade Fortnight
By admin • Jan 18th, 2009 • Category: Lead Story, fairtrade23rd of February to the 8th March the UK will see an increased focus on Fairtrade from a wide range of retailers and companies as Fairtrade Fortnight is back to increase awareness about fair trade and the work being done to improve trading standards for producers around the world.
The theme for this years Fairtrade Fortnight is; Make it happen. Choose Fairtrade.
The focus on fair trade is more important than ever as the world is struggling through tougher economic climate and many producers will seek to cut cost were possible. It is therefore important that we as customers keep supporting fairtrade to ensure that farmers and producers around the world gets fair price for their produce/work, and a chance to develop themselves and their communities to improve their overall living quality, like we here in the UK are used to.
Fairtrade Fortnight creates a great opportunity for retailers and companies to further tell their customers about their work for fairtrade, and the fairtrade options amongst their product portfolio. There are currently over 4,500 products in the UK market bearing the Fairtrade mark. Some of the new products expected to start bearing the Fairtrade mark in 2009 are olive oil and cosmetics.
We encourage all our readers to support Fairtrade and Fairtrade Fortnight this coming month.
