Cadbury Dairy Milk to become first mainstream chocolate bar going Fairtrade
By admin • Mar 4th, 2009 • Category: Lead Story, fairtrade chocolateOne of the most loved chocolate bars in the UK, Cadburys Dairy Milk, has announced that they are going to become part of the fair trade movement by becoming the first UK mainstream chocolate bar to raise the Fairtrade logo sales banner (Greenplanet.net).
Cadbury has pledged to double the amount of cocoa bought from small farmers in developing countries, primarily Ghana, under the sustainable farming scheme, which means they have committed to pay the farmers the “Fairtrade premium” of £105 a tonne above market prices.
As part of their bigger plan to turn all their chocolate brands over to fairtrade they have committed to buying 10,000 tonnes of Fairtrade cocoa, trippling the certified sales from Ghana, and helping thousands of small cocoa farmers.
So keep an eye out for the new fairtrade Dairy Milk bars at a store near you.
